So, after a memorable buffet breakfast at the Admiral Hotel (and I mean life-changing good), including delights such as salmon gravalax, smoked salmon, remoulade (white fish), omlette (ham and cheese), Norwegian crepes (buckwheat firm textured...almost rubbery texture but delicious), liver tonic shots (ginger, spices and juice), incredible seeded breads, we boarded a tour bus to see the sights of Bergen, pronounced Berjen. Our driver was a retired Lutheran minister who proudly took us to churches, shops and the famous coloured building fronts near the harbour. In addition we did get to see Edvard Grieg's house...giving us a good chance to assess the waterproof nature of our jackets. Since neither of our suitcases have yet caught up with us, I can confirm that asics sneakers are NOT waterproof and my one pair of socks are starting to suffer a touch.

After a safety briefing at the dock we boarded the MS Trollfjord and set sail for Molde overnight. We are in Cabin 418. A room with a great porthole view during daylight hours. At the expedition briefing we heard about where everything is on board, were amused by the antics of our fellow passengers (seems it is a global phenomenon of needing to constantly be scrolling on a phone, even during information sessions, combined with an unnerving need to consume food from crinkly packages 24/7). At this time, we were told of a very rough night ahead in the open oceans. The seas were VERY rough from about 11pm until 2pm and our porthole was regularly drenched with waves and splash. We are on the fourth floor (of 9). Can confirm that neither of us suffers motion sickness...but it was tested.

All in all though, a wonderful day to get our Norwegian adventures up and running. Temperature 4C.
